We’ve been rocking for 32 years. We’re going to keep rocking until we can’t. The only way it would end is if I die. We don’t plan on stopping rocking.”

The new Best Buy on New York’s Union Square at 14th street is one of a number of the chain’s stores that carries a full line of “pro-sumer” musical instruments—including Gibson and Fender guitars. The Best Buy music-gear locations join a list of emporiums that includes Guitar Center, Matt Umanov’s, the Soho branch of Rudy’s Music Stop, and many other guitar-stocking shops, all located at the south end of the Manhattan—an area that is fast replacing 48th street for guitar shopping.

The song in question was used in a commercial during the Super Bowl at the weekend (Sunday, Feb 7) and the pair have since issued a statement on their website, which reads: "The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve's presenting this advert with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support."

In the beginning of 1960, the ES-335TDs were built to the same specs as the 1959 versions and were offered in only Natural and Sunburst finishes. By about midyear, neck specs began to change to a thinner and more elliptical feel and ultimately, production of the Natural ES-335TD would cease and the Cherry finish would take its place in the latter part of the year. It is this later version that many argue the 1960 ES-335TD’s features had settled into their optimum form.

IN THIS LESSON WE’LL CHECK OUT some string-skipping ideas you can loop, as in continuously repeat. This is a technique I love to use in my music, and it is very good for your chops. Because the notation doesn’t always include repeat signs, you’ll have to use your imagination with some of these phrases.

WHETHER OR NOT you’ve had the chance to catch a Joe Bonamassa gig, his latest DVD, Live from the Royal Albert Hall [Premier Artists], is a must see. Not only do you get blues-rock’s leading light at the height of his powers, but you also get a kick-ass backing band, stellar camera work, great sound quality, and a little jam between Bonamassa and a guy whose initials are E.C.

You would think that being a member of two extremely successful metal bands, Soulfly and the Cavalera Conspiracy, would be enough to keep any guitarist busy. But Marc Rizzo isn’t your average guitarist. Between touring and recording with his regular bands, Rizzo has recently released his third solo album, featuring a wide-variety of songs written in the instrumental-rock guitar vein.

Five chords, one fingering. Wouldn't that be a great way to learn guitar? Why struggle with trying to memorize thousands of chords when you can cut that number by half, five, or ten times? With multi-use chord voicings, it's possible!

Most of the performances on the Grammys made very clear that the people now responsible for promoting and selling music to the general public have absolutely no belief whatsoever in the actual power of music. Storm-trooper dancers, trapeze acts (although Pink’s vocal was incredible), three-dimensional computer graphics, and mid-song costume changes all testify to the fact that none of the powers that be in the music industry believe that an audience would actually be interested...

I really enjoy how Twitter has connected me to various musicians and pedal builders out there. With the numbers of pedal builders rising, there is no better place to connect with them on a more personal level. A few months ago, @Goosoniqueworx and I started following each other and asked if I’d be interested to look at their high gain distortion pedal and of course I agreed.
